Founder of Bloomington Soccer LLC
Known to many of the young players in the community as “Coach Chris,” the IU grad has spent over 30 years in Bloomington promoting, coaching and broadcasting soccer.
He started the rec league “Kicks For Kids” for Monroe County Youth Soccer and grew the program to 320 registrants before handing-it-off to the Cutters organization. For 10 years Chris designed and facilitated the youth instructional programming at the SportsPlex. And in 2009, he formed Bloomington Soccer LLC.
Doran completed US Soccer’s “A” certification and currently holds a “B” License. He’s coached at club, high school and ODP levels for nearly 25 years. He was varsity coach of the Bloomington High School South boys program from 2000-2003. He maintained the same position at Bloomington High School North from 2005-2008, resigning as the school’s all-time winningest soccer coach with 3 sectional titles, 3 regional championships and two appearances in the “Elite 8”.
In a second-stint at Bloomington High School North Doran coached the girl’s program. The Cougars captured the 2011 and 2012 Sectional titles, a regional championship and an “Elite 8” appearance – earning Doran Conference Indiana Girls Coach of the Year in 2012.
As a coach and personal soccer trainer, Chris has helped players achieve numerous goals, including all-conference and all-state awards, State Cup Championships and collegiate scholarships. He was inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame in 2016.
Doran’s soccer broadcasting career spans more than 25 years, including radio play-by-play coverage of 4 of Indiana’s national championships, the MLS All Star game and as the first english radio play-by-play announcer for MLS’s Chicago Fire. He’s served as both play-by-play and analyst for FOX Sports and host/analyst for Major League Soccer’s Chicago FIRE, Columbus Crew, and The Big Ten Network. The father of two children (Patrick & Maggie), Chris resides in Bloomington with his wife Sheila.
Twin Lakes Rec Center
A 100,000 square foot facility on Bloomington’s westside, owned and operated by the City of Bloomington, that features a weightroom, cardio area, 1/5th mile track, 5 basketball courts and most-importantly, a synthetic gras, walled-in soccer field measuring 85′ wide, by 185′ long.
