Is soccer camp right for my little one?
It’s important to compare what you know about your child, with the camp environment and mission. With that data you can make an informed decision and either way, your child benefits.
A soccer camp for 5-7 year olds can look like anything from organized chaos to the introduction to military academy. What’s most important is that the children have fun, so the most-effective camp will feature structure, age-appropriate activities, games and lots of smiles!
The underlying effort is to introduce good training and soccer habits. Fun stretching and warm-up activities, skills training and repetition, games with simple objectives and especially, small-sided games to a goal, are activities kids can “bring home” and use in the backyard.
Soccer is a sport anyone can play – there’s no discrimination based on size, weight, socio-economic group or any other qualifier. As a result, the youth coaches working with your children must be as much teachers as they are ambassadors of the sport.
If your child spends a week in soccer camp and spends the summer practicing/ discussing/ recalling what she/he has learned, the ambassador has succeeded, your child benefits and the game has found another rising star.
